Excerpt from Book, Chapter 112
Dimona, Israel
As the clock at Gavriel’s workstation reached four minutes thirteen seconds, an alarm sounded. Everyone in the control room looked up at the speakers mounted on the wall. Then a voice spoke. “Standby for an Emergency Message.”
Gavriel and the launch control officers took out their notebooks and pens. Moments later, the voice continued. “Lamed, ayin, resh, ayin, gimel, gimel, bet, qof…” They dutifully copied down the text and swapped notebooks.
When the repeat broadcast concluded, Gavriel checked the pages, and then turned to Ari. “Sir, they read the same.”
Ari glanced over Gavriel’s shoulder at the notebooks, then nodded. “I concur. The Emergency Action Message has been accurately received.”
As they had done before, the launch control officers unlocked the safe and removed a second authentication card. Ari compared the letters on the card to the first few letters of the message they just received. “The message is authentic,” he nodded.
Gavriel took the card and repeated the process. “Yes,” he nodded. “The message is confirmed.” He reached across his desk and handed it to the technician. “Quickly,” Gavriel snapped. “This is an order to stand down.”
Before the technician could grasp the message, Khoury stepped forward and snatched it away. He held the message in one hand and drew his automatic pistol in the other. “Move this way. Both of you,” he said gesturing to the technicians with the pistol. “Step away from the panel.”
As they stepped aside, Khoury moved to the center of the room. “Now, this is what we are going to do. We are going to stay right where we are and wait while the missiles launch. And if everyone does as they are told, we will all get to go home at the end of the day.” A broad grin spread across his face. “And then we can watch while the few Iranians who survive try to figure out what it them.”
“You cannot be serious,” Ari shouted. “We have orders to stand down.”
Khoury shook his head. “I do not know anything about any orders to stand down. All I know is those worthless Iranians want to destroy us. Only now, we have the chance to destroy them. And we are going to do it.”
Ari moved to the right. “This will never work.”
“Of course it will work. I may have to shoot you, but it will work. The launch sequence has been initiated. Computers are in charge now. Nothing can stop them but human intervention.” He wagged the pistol. “And I am going to make certain that will not happen.”
One of the launch control officers spoke up. “There are six of us, and one of you.”
Khoury held up the pistol. “I have fifteen rounds. That is two each. Do you want to be first?”
By then Ari was at the end of the workstation. “You will never get away with this.” He came around the end and moved toward Khoury. “You will be tried and executed.”
Khoury stepped forward quickly and grabbed Ari around the neck. “Perhaps you are right. Perhaps I will die. And if that is true, why should I care what happens to you?” He pressed the muzzle of the pistol against Ari’s temple. “How brave are you feeling now?”
From the corner of his eye, Ari caught a glimpse of the countdown clock. Fifty-nine seconds and counting…
Many believe the clash between the Arabs and Israelis is political and the religious factor has just lately risen to the surface; that is an erroneous assumption. It has long been a conflict between two books and two spirits: the Bible and the Quran; the spirit of life and the spirit of death (jihad). It is, indeed, a religious conflict. The danger that emanates from Iran’s proxies—Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad—is the direct result of the belief that each terrorist entity speaks for Allah and is acting at his behest to bring death to the infidels.
Iran is the center of gravity for the fundamentalist Islam wolf pack. Its footprint can be seen in comments made by the head of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, who refers to himself as the special envoy not of Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but of its supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. This gives subtle overtones of Shi’a radicalism to Hezbollah. At last count, the terrorist group had some 50,000 rockets aimed toward Israel. And while the Islamic Jihad terrorists in Gaza with their 5,000 rockets can’t vie in numbers, they can compete in the intensity of their hatred for the Jewish nation.
There was a time when Arab players were characterized by the country from which they came (nationalism.) Today they more readily identify themselves simply as practicing or non-practicing Muslims. The factors that will one day blur the lines dividing the Shi’ite and the Sunni Muslims is their hatred for Israel and a desire of both to see an Islamic caliphate dominate the world.
This is why, when dealing with Iran, U.S. leaders must understand that there are truths in the political arena which cannot be denied: First, harsh sanctions can work; second, the U.S. must maintain its role as a world leader; and third, America’s support for Israel must not waiver. The U.S.-Israel alliance is the only firewall between radical Islam and the West.
We must know our enemy. We have two opponents, the irreconcilable wing of Islam and the evil power that inspires it. Once God’s people see this clearly, they can arm themselves with the Word and prayer in order to plunder Hell and populate Heaven. This is a war that cannot be won without applying basic biblical principles
